Vocab.

  • viruses- a piece of code that is capable of copying itself and typically has a detrimental effect, such as corrupting the system or destroying data.
  • Phishing- the activity of defrauding an online account holder of financial information by posing as a legitimate company.
  • e-mail- messages distributed by electronic means from one computer user to one or more recipients via a network.
  • social engineering- the application of sociological principles to specific social problems.
  • spoofing- imitate (something) while exaggerating its characteristic features for comic effect.
                         - hoax or trick
  • identity theft- the fraudulent acquisition and use of a person's private identifying information, usually for financial gain.
  • spamming- send the same message indiscriminately to (large numbers of recipients) on the Internet.
